ExperienceI retired as an elementary teacher after working for over twenty years for the Santa Ana Unified School District in California. My specialty while working full-time was at-risk, English as Second Language students in grades kindergarten through grade five. I have also served as a substitute teacher for grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Throughout my career, I served as a mentor, teaching 15 to 20 teachers how to manage their classes, make lesson plans, and effectively reach students. Following retirement, I contracted as a tutor and substitute teacher in San Bernardino and Riverside. I now tutor math, reading, writing, phonics, literature, American history, social studies, public speaking, and several other subjects. I enjoy several aspects of tutoring, including watching how students work and think and developing a one-on-one relationship with them.My master's degree is in Reading and Literacy and I have over 500 hours of professional development training. I also have experience in methods and strategies for taking tests. While my retirement hasn't been a full retirement because of my tutoring activities, I manage to squeeze in time for gardening, fishing, reading, traveling, and family time.
Hobbiesgardening, fishing , all sports, reading, spending time with my grand nieces and nephews, traveling.
